The Kitchen Is The Most Important Room

Why The Kitchen Is The Most Important Room in The House - Just Ask Your Realtor

Today's kitchen is the nucleus of the home, the place to eat and meet. Living with a kitchen that is fresh and updated can make everyday living feel an easier and organized and can be a profitable investment. Taking the time to update just a few things in the kitchen can make a huge difference whether you are planning to stay for a long time or planning to sell; it is worth the time and investment. A poll of realtors in North America suggests that an investment in your kitchen can add 5-10% on the value of your home.

Home Design Essentials - The Kitchen Is The Most Important RoomThe first step in renovating your kitchen is to take an inventory of all the items that are currently in the room. Permanent items are obviously the most important components of your inventory list. One this is done, review all the permanent items in the kitchen, color, texture and finish and determine what will stay and what will go. The items that are staying need to be brought together in a cohesive vision and the best way to begin is to find a sample of each permanent component. If you do not have spare samples of tile, wood, you might try picking up a few samples at your local DIY store that are close in color. Once you have a representative sample of each permanent item you can then begin bringing in new colors, textures and finishes that update and bring together the overall look.

With these samples you can create a sample board for the kitchen and you are ready to fill in the missing pieces to complete the room. The least expensive of which are changing the colors of specific items. Wall and cabinet colors are an excellent starting point and the most cost effective way to update a kitchen. A new line of pre-mixed paints in North America called Canvas Home Basics has interior designer approved colors that mix and match with one another to provide results that appeal to the majority of people.
