Planning Your Bedroom Space
Professional and amateur designers should always map out and plan their room space to ensure their furniture and accessories work within the space both visually and practically.
When planning your bedroom the biggest piece of furniture that goes in this room is obviously the BED and so the following items should be considered when placing this piece of furniture in the bedroom.
- Feng Chui - which is the Asian science of positioning items in relation to other things to ensure good luck - in this case, placing furniture such as a bed in a certain spot in the room to ensure prosperity, comfort and good luck - for beds this means the foot of the bed must be facing the door.
- For double or queen sized beds make sure to leave enough room on both sides of the bed so two people can get in and out of the bed.
- If you have cold winters you may not want to put the head of the bed on the outside wall for it tends to get a little colder in the winter months.
- Check out where the cable outlets are for the TV before putting your bed up. If you are one that likes to watch TV in bed then you may want to have it across from your cable outlets.
- Make sure that your bed does not get in the way of opening drawers or closet doors.
- Don't put your bed right under the window for you will not get any breeze when you open your windows.
Once the bed placement is chosen you need to consider the bedding itself. The comforter, pillows and throws that go on a bed are as important as where you put the bed. After all, the bed is the focal point of any bedroom. Make the bedding cozy and comfortable and this will give the whole room a warm feeling. Make sure that you have a good quality mattress on each bed. Mattress quality is directly related to sleep quality which is directly related to health conditions. Back problems are also directly related to poor quality bed mattresses.
The rule for good quality mattresses applies for the guestroom as well. All too often, homeowners do not give the guest room the attention it deserves. People travel a long way to visit - make sure that they are treated to a good sleep. This will be remembered.
Try not to clutter up the bedrooms - keep it open and comfortable. It's a place to relax - so make sure it feels that way.
